As our nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, United Veterans Beacon House proudly hosted its annual Independence Day BBQ, bringing together veterans, veteran residents, elected officials, board members, volunteers, community partners, staff, and supporters for an afternoon dedicated to honoring service, freedom, and community.
The celebration began with welcoming remarks from Board Chair Adam Wood, who reflected on the meaning of Independence Day and the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served our nation. Following a moving rendition of the National Anthem, veterans and guests enjoyed an afternoon filled with great food, live music by the Jon Divello Band, lawn games, chess, ice cream, and meaningful fellowship. One of the day’s highlights was a custom T-shirt station, where every veteran received a complimentary commemorative shirt to take home.
We were especially honored to welcome New York Islanders forward Kyle Palmieri, his wife Ashlee, and their two children, who spent the afternoon visiting with veterans, taking photographs, and sharing in the celebration. Their generosity and genuine appreciation for those who have served left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
This special day was made possible through the dedication of our volunteers and community partners, including the Merrill Lynch team, who helped serve lunch to veterans and guests throughout the afternoon. Their enthusiasm and commitment created a warm, welcoming atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the event.
More than a summer tradition, our annual Independence Day BBQ is an opportunity to remind veterans that their service is remembered, their sacrifices are appreciated, and they remain an important part of our community. We are grateful to everyone who joined us in celebrating the freedoms we enjoy and the men and women who helped preserve them.
A special thank you to our longtime partner, Lasting Impressions Photography, for generously donating their time and talent to capture the moments that make events like this so memorable. Through their continued support, we are able to preserve the stories, smiles, and connections that define our mission. We are grateful for their partnership and commitment to the veterans we proudly serve.
