On September 16 th, a team of National Grid Employees were on site with their sleeves rolled up ready to give back!
National Grid, through its Project C Giving Program, is supporting Beacon House, and its mission to improve the quality of life for the veterans we serve.
Thanks to their efforts the grounds of our Islip based home, which serves as a transitional residence to 9 formerly homeless veterans, has been renewed. The team leader, Keith Rooney, rallied his co-workers and fellow veterans for a day of service, he was also joined by his good friend Jim McNulty, VP of Operations at Asplundh.
By mid-afternoon the overgrown trees and bushes were gone, the ground was leveled, grass seed was spread, the back deck was stained, and two new flags were up!
“This is a beautiful day for Beacon House,” says the agency’s president and CEO Frank Amalfitano. “We have this great team from National Grid, all volunteers, who chose to spend this sunny, Fall day beautifying our veterans home in Islip.
These on-the-ground efforts bring people together in a unique way – National Grid’s volunteers and our veterans equally benefit from mutual awareness and gratitude. We are incredibly grateful to National Grid!”
